Privacy Practices
Our Pledge Regarding Health Information

At Sleeping Bear Counseling Services (SBCS) PLLC, we understand that your health information is personal, and are committed to protecting it. A record of the care and services you receive will be created. This record is needed to provide you with quality care and to comply with certain legal requirements.
As a counseling client, you will receive a copy of NOTICE OF PRIVACY PRACTICES, which applies to all of the records of your care generated by this mental health care practice (SBCS). This notice will tell you about the ways in which the practice may use and disclose health information about you. This notice also describes your rights to the health information kept about you and describes certain obligations regarding the use and disclosure of your health information.
Sleeping Bear Counseling Services, PLLC is required by law to:

Make sure that protected health information (“PHI”) that identifies you is kept private.

Give you the privacy notice of the practice's legal duties and privacy practices with respect to health information.

Follow the terms of the notice that is currently in effect
SBCS can change the terms of the Privacy Notice, and such changes will apply to all information about you. The new Notice will be available upon request.
Texting Consent
Mobile SMS Privacy Policy and Consent

We use texting to schedule appointments with our clients, clarify questions, respond to inquiries, provide appointment instructions, respond to client-initiated communication, and respond to other administrative requests.

Your consent is required to receive SMS text messages from us, related to services that we are providing to you.

You can text us STOP at any time to opt out of receiving SMS text messages from us. You can text us HELP at any time to receive help.

Your mobile information/text messaging opt-in will not be shared with any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All policies are followed as per CTIA guidelines 5.2.1.

In Case of PsychologicalEmergency

If you cannot keep yourself or others safe, or if you are strongly contemplating suicide or inflicting harm on others and may take action, call 911 or ask a family member or trusted friend to transport you to the nearest hospital emergency room.

If you are having thoughts about suicide, death, or harming others and are not thinking about taking action, then call 988, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

If you are in Michigan and local to Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, or Wexford County, call the Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Crisis Line (FAST) at 1-833-295-0616.

If you are not in immediate crisis but need help between sessions, you may call or text (231-492-0815) or email (wunderlichlpcd@gmail.com) directly. Your communication will be responded to as soon as possible, within 48 hours, unless your therapist has scheduled days off in which case they will contact you within 48 hours of their return.
Professional Consultation and Training
We consult with other qualified mental health professionals and participate in continuous learning/training to stay current and continue to grow our skill sets. If your case is presented, it will be done without identifying information, and names will be changed for privacy.
